Creating Together

14 October 2020

Dear Friends

Since inception, our Journeys together have used the prism of Design to make real our core values of well-being, sustainability and community. This year has seen these values find new focus for all of us as we grapple with the pressing issues of the day and our future.
JOURNEYS IN DESIGN

Taking our lead from design talent in Scotland and beyond and working with local communities, we continue an exploration of materials including linen, seaweed and concrete. Our exhibitions and events programme has continued to evolve and we're grateful for the support of colleagues old and new.
OUR PROGRAMMES

After our 'summer of seaweed', our autumn events this year have included co-design of a new Linen Walk in East Belfast to mirror our walks in Scotland including our 'Linen and the Lang Toun' in Kirkcaldy, part of our Walks by Design series established in 2015.
CO-DESIGNING A LINEN WALK

Further enhancing links between Scotland and N.Ireland, we have offered local Wild Weaving sessions in Belfast's Victoria Park, as first established in The Meadows of central Edinburgh last year. This week, we are working with National Museums NI and the talented team at Ulster Folk Museum, a nod to our work with the Highland Folk Museum in 2018.
WILD WEAVING WORKSHOPS

Next week, with many thanks to Jennifer and the team at Kirkcaldy Galleries, we are delighted to display 'Linen, Mills & Millies', running Tuesday 20th to Sunday 25th October. As those following Our Linen Stories will know, Kirkcaldy is arguably the home of linen in Scotland so we're delighted to return to say a huge thank you to the local towns people who have enhanced Our Linen Stories in the last 3 years.

In particular, our pop-up exhibition includes a new work force of Linen Millies on display for the first time, made up and marked by women from Scotland and N.Ireland. Thank you for your dedication over the summer months and for your wonderful tributes to these hard working women.
MAKING MILLIE 2020

Our sense of well-being is enhanced with walks, creative activity and engagement with our local community, in whatever way we can. As we plan ahead for next year with some 'concrete thinking', we wish you and your community well.

On behalf of all the team
Keep good
John
