Flax Futures | Our Linen Stories

Our Linen Stories is a rolling Exhibition and Events series celebrating contemporary design in Flax Fibre and Linen, drawing on Scotland’s rich industrial and trading heritage and with a focus on sustainability and our circular economy. 

 

Coming up this year: FlaxFest24, September in Dunfermline and beyond: a cultural celebration of flax and linen across art, design and industry in Scotland.

Since 2018, the programme has brought exhibitions and events to Fife, the Lothians, the Borders, the Highlands, N.Ireland and Portugal, holding a landmark exhibition at Dovecot Studios in 2019/20. With more than 8000 direct engagements to date and many more via social media, we launched Scotland's first Flax and Linen Festival in 2021,

This flax and linen Journey in Design continued in 2023 with Flax Futures, a touring exhibition and set of collaborative design projects, including educational outreach and regenerative textile network development.

Reaching beyond borders, Our Linen Stories continues to explore Scotland’s extraordinary relationship with this quintessentially European textile, gathering stories from our partner linen nations including Ireland, Belgium, France and The Netherlands.
