Sharing Culture by Design
8 January 2020
Dear Friends
Whatever challenges communities may face in this new decade, our cultural ties persist, those shared elements of life that enrich people across the world despite differences in language and creed.
Design in its many forms can illustrate and enhance these links. Our image this month is a linen panel, embroidered by a talented team from Veere in The Netherlands. It is part of the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry and with others in the series will form the backdrop to our Twilight Talk: Sharing Culture by Design next week at Dovecot Studios, a very special addition to what promises to be an inspiring evening.
Huge thanks to the team at Dovecot Studios for hosting our Exhibition, Twilight Talks and Walks by Design and to the Artiscience Library at Summerhall for hosting our Weaving Workshops and Weavers Tales. Tickets for the final creative cluster of events in this series can be reserved via Eventbrite: our exhibition and events are free to attend.
Since 2018, our Journeys in Design have taken us from Scotland to Veere and other centres and we have displayed designs in Scotland from France, Belgium and Holland, enhancing cultural ties with Europe. Our Linen Stories completes its current tour in Edinburgh this month and I am delighted to announce its onward journey to Belfast, enhancing links between Scotland and N.Ireland this autumn.
As Journeys in Design progresses
with new collaborations in Scotland and beyond,
we wish you well in 2020,
on behalf of all the team,
John Ennis
